Pathways to certification

Secure employment with an employer who’s committed to on-the-job education and mentorship and complete technical training sessions. Learn more about apprenticeship here.

Apprenticeship is mandatory for five compulsory trades in Saskatchewan:

To apprentice, you must be a resident of Saskatchewan and a permanent resident/citizen of Canada.

Experienced tradespeople working in non-compulsory designated trades – who are not apprentices or journeypersons – may qualify to challenge the journeyperson certification exam.

To be approved to challenge the journeyperson certification exam as trade qualifiers, tradespeople must submit a trade qualifier application through MyATC. Tradespeople must submit proof of working 1.5 times the term of apprenticeship for that trade.
