The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) will host the 18th annual Apprenticeship Awards tonight at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. Thirty-three skilled tradespeople will receive the Outstanding New Journeyperson Award.
The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed November 4-10 as Skilled Trades and Technology Week in Saskatchewan to raise awareness of the career opportunities available in the skilled trades and technology sectors. In Budget 2018, the Government of Canada announced a new Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women to further support women in entering, progressing, and completing their training in Red Seal trades where women are underrepresented. The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women (AIG-W) is a taxable cash grant of $3,000 per year/level (or equivalent) up to a maximum amount of $6,000 per person.
Saskatchewan Apprenticeship is committed to maintaining a responsive, industry-driven apprenticeship and certification system that meets labour market needs. In order to meet this mandate, we are raising a couple of fees.
Effective January 2019, Sprinkler Fitter will be designated as a compulsory trade in Saskatchewan – the first trade to be designated as compulsory in the province since 1988.
A Sprinkler Fitter Compulsory Taskforce, made up of industry representatives from across Saskatchewan, submitted an application demonstrating widespread support for this designation.
The SATCC is offering Boom Truck Upgrader training in Lloydminster April 8-12, 2019. This training will be facilitated by the Western Trades Training Institute. Proficiency Certification testing will be offered at the end of this course.

The Aboriginal Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) program promotes awareness of apprenticeship training and understanding of the trades as a career choice. The AAI is accepting proposals and new creative projects, including apprenticeship courses, mentoring projects, career exploration and many other opportunities.
All 2018 tax slips from the SATCC have now been mailed out.
