Apprenticeship Information
Apprenticeship is an earn-as-you-learn career pathway that combines practical, on-the-job training with periods of in-class technical training. Depending on the trade, apprenticeship can take one to four years to complete. During hands-on training, an apprentice earns a wage while working and learning under a journeyperson. In-class training includes attending school at a technical institute for a few weeks each year.
After completing their technical training and prescribed hours of on-the-job training, apprentices are eligible to write the journeyperson examination and become certified. A Journeyperson Certificate with a Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) is recognized across Canada.
