Powerline Technician Training Provider Update
Southeast College will assume the role of training provider for Powerline Technician apprentices in Saskatchewan later this year.
The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission selected Southeast College to serve as the new training provider through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
SaskPower, the current training provider, is continuing to train apprentices early this fall as Southeast College transitions into the training provider role. SaskPower is delivering training to apprentices whose training was cancelled in the spring of 2020 due to COVID-19.
Powerline Technician apprentices and employers who receive training notices later this fall will be the first to attend training delivered by Southeast College.
Training will continue to be delivered via a hybrid training model, the model used for Powerline Technician training delivery prior to COVID-19.
The first cohort of apprentices will attend face-to-face training beginning January 2021 at the Powerline Technician Training Centre in Weyburn’s Evanston Park, the same facility apprentices used when SaskPower served as the training provider. Prior to attending in-person training, apprentices will complete the theoretical portion of their technical training online.
The most recent version of the 2020-21 training schedule is available here.
