One hundred high school graduates from 79 communities across the province are receiving Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) Industry Scholarships. The scholarship program, launched in 2009, is overseen by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC). Scholarships are presented to SYA program participants who plan to pursue careers in the skilled trades. The exam sitting scheduled for May 19 in La Ronge has been cancelled due to the power outage associated with the wildfire burning north of Prince Albert. Today kicks off the week long Skills Canada Saskatchewan Virtual Provincial Competition. Apprentices, post-secondary students and high school students from across the province will showcase their skills for a chance to win medals and earn recognition. The Red Seal Rig Technician trade will be de-designated across Canada, effective June 30, 2021. The trade was approved nationally for de-designation by the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) due to a lack of industry demand to continue supporting the trade.
