CHANGES TO THE LOCKSMITH PROGRAM

The Locksmith program is changing, effective for the 2016-17 academic year.  Registration for 2016-17 begins on May 26, 2016.

THE NEW LOCKSMITH PROGRAM

Training Requirements: To graduate from each level of the apprenticeship program, an apprentice must successfully complete the required technical training and compile enough on-the-job experience to total at least 1,800 hours each year. Although technical training has been reduced from four to three levels, the total trade time required is still 7,200 hours and at least four (4) years in the trade.  The three levels of technical training are delivered by Red Deer College in Red Deer, Alberta as follows:

Level One:      8 weeks
Level Two:      8 weeks
Level Three:    8 weeks

Apprentices are being encouraged to complete the new technical training for the new program for the period they have just successfully completed.  For example, if an apprentice has completed Level 2 in the existing technical training system, they are encouraged to sign up for Level 2 in the new technical training system.
